Go For Gin Memorial Fund
The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation seeks to honor the life of former Hall of Champions resident Go For Gin through a permanent memorial to this great horse. This piece will not only celebrate our beloved Gin, but it will also enrich the artistic landscape of the Kentucky Horse Park.
Gin won the 120th Kentucky Derby with Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron. He followed that win with a second in the Preakness Stakes (G1) and the Belmont Stakes (G1) losing both of the races to Tabasco Cat. From age 2 to 4, Go For Gin won 14 out of his 19 races, earning $1,380,866. He lived at the Park’s Hall of Champions since retiring from stud duty in June 2011 until his death in March 2022. During residency at the Kentucky Horse Park, hundreds of thousands of individuals from around the world had the unique opportunity to meet this Thoroughbred racing legend.

Nicknamed the “Gutsy Gelding,” Funny was a resident at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Hall of Champions barn since 2008. Funny Cide was the 2003 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner who died July 16, 2023 following complications from colic at 23 years old. Like other great Hall of Champions horses at the Kentucky Horse Park, Funny Cide was buried at the Memorial Walk of Champions alongside past Thoroughbred residents Go For Gin, Forego, Bold Forbes, John Henry, Alysheba, and Da Hoss.
